Get Lizzy to Kamp… Again

Get Lizzy to Kamp… Again

Summer is an amazing, fun-filled time for Kanakuk. However, the “off-season” from Kamp is equally as exciting, just in a different way! For 5 months out of the year, we travel across the nation to colleges everywhere, seeking the best applicants for summer staff. We meet countless new friends… and have the chance to reconnect with old ones!

One person we caught up with recently at Mississippi State was former Kamper, Lizzy Coke!

Do you remember #GetLizzyToKamp from Twitter ? If not, let us remind you of this awcrepic story and God’s perfect plan for each of us.

Last spring, Lizzy was excited and ready to enjoy her 5th summer at Kanakuk. Upon trying to register for K-2 Term 1, she was disappointed to find that the term was completely full. She and her friends quickly rallied to #GetLizzyToKamp on Twitter.

Here at Kanakuk, we saw Lizzy and her friends campaigning to get one of their best Kamp friends to her final summer as a Kamper. To our surprise and excitement, we saw that a spot had just opened up for that specific Term - in perfect time for Lizzy!

We quickly replied to Lizzy to share the good news! It would be possible for her to spend her final summer as a Kamper with her friends! For weeks, Lizzy and her friends Tweeted about the excitement they shared for how God worked in her life.

During her staff interview this past week, Lizzy shared with us the realization that God was in complete control of her summer plans this past spring. She said summer 2012 at Kamp was the most impactful summer she has ever had at Kanakuk.

“At first, I didn’t really understand exactly why I needed to go to Kamp the summer before college,” Lizzy said. “When I arrived and was not in the same cabin as all of my friends, I know God was preparing me for college to get out of my comfort zone and make new friends.”

After 4 amazing summers, we’re thrilled to see how God paved a way for Lizzy to join us for a final year unlike any other.

As a result of the impact from this past summer, Lizzy felt called to take the next step in the life of a Kamper: to apply to be a Kanakuk Kamps summer staffer. She’s anxious to find out if she has been hired, but knows God is in control of her plans for the upcoming summer.

Full-time K-West Assistant Women’s Director, Lindsay Rother, interviewed Lizzy and was inspired to hear Lizzy’s heart and reliance on the Lord for what happens in her life.

“I remembered seeing #GetLizzyToKamp on Twitter and hearing the story of how she actually ended up at Kamp last summer,” said Lindsay. “I was so excited to meet her in real life! When she started telling me how the Lord rocked her world at Kamp after the Twitter antics got her there, I couldn’t help but be reminded how we serve a God who goes before us, even in the social media world, in ways we will never be able to understand or take credit for.”

We can’t wait to track with Lizzy as the application process continues to see where the Lord leads her. Regardless of the result, we know that God’s plan for Lizzy, and for each of us, is incredible. Stay tuned for updates as summer 2013 nears!

What is one way you have seen the Lord work big things in your life? We’d love to hear!
